Gotalift is a carpooling search engineSo what makes it different than the dozens of other carpooling websites out there? We're not one of them! Instead, gotalift searches other websites in order to make it easier for you to find rides, so that you don't have to. Who really wants to waste his or her time registering on, logging in, and searching dozens of carpooling websites just to find a ride? This website is still in it's beta testing stage, which means we're not quite there yet in terms of searching many of the carpooling websites in operation. We currently search Craigslist rideshare postings, and we hope to add more in the near future. We invite you to please join us in reducing the number of single-occupancy vehicles on the road. Carpooling is one of the cheapest and easiest ways of reducing the number of cars on the road, which means fewer carbon emissions and fewer greenhouse gases. It is just another small step that we can all take to fight back against global warming. So next time you're thinking about driving your car all by yourself, just think: Got a lift? How you can helpIf you find this website useful, or feel that it has potential, please mention it in your blog. Better yet, let your local newspaper know about it! There are plenty of other ways to spread the word, and I would invite you to try out different ways, be creative, and let your friends know about gotalift! There are many carpooling websites already out there. (I've counted over 40 so far.) New ones are popping up nearly every month. The problem is that each one exists on its own separate island, disconnected from one another. Our goal is to build bridges between those islands. It may be a challenge getting everyone working together at first, but it is one that I know we can accomplish. I'm quite excited about recent progress in this area! We're working with other websites and transit people to develop an open-source protocol for communicating carpooling and other transit-related information between various websites. I'll keep you updated after a working draft has been developed.
